Lessons Learned from Colorado’s Setback Saga
Featured Speakers: Seth Whitehead, Executive Director, Illinois Petroleum Resources Board
A ballot initiative that would have imposed 2,500-foot setbacks and essentially wiped out new oil and natural gas development in Colorado was soundly defeated in November. However, the fact that the measure not only made the ballot – but was defeated by a relatively close margin despite the industry outspending “Keep It In the Ground” activists by a wide margin – should serve as a wakeup call moving forward. Could a similar measure pass in the future? And could such a measure pass in Illinois, where a similar political climate exists? Illinois Petroleum Resources Board Executive Director and former Energy In Depth Team Lead Seth Whitehead will discuss the lessons learned from Colorado’s Proposition 112 saga and how to counter the deceptive tactics employed by anti-fossil fuel activists in Colorado.
